This is a 5 page speaking based lesson, with one page of homework, and teacher’s instructions with answers.
The target language is Adverbs of Manner.
It is a speaking based lesson plan.
It focuses on:
- Changing common adjectives into common adverbs of manner
(quiet-quietly / easy-easily / good-well / fast-fast) - Introducing the common form of “ly” for adverbs as well as the other irregular forms they take.
- The spelling rule for adding endings to words that end with “y”
( y change to i + ly ) - Reviewing sentences with should and shouldn’t.
It includes:
- One page grammar breakdown (Presentation).
- Two Activities to practice speaking the target language (Semi-restricted speaking practice).
- Two Activities to produce the target language (Freer speaking practice).
- One page to be assigned for homework (Fill-ins and a paragraph).
- Two pages of teacher’s instructions on how to execute the lesson in class and answers.
Tips:
- Make sure students understand that adverbs of manner are describing the verb in the sentence.
(I finished the homework easily / Easily is describing finish – NOT homework.) - Students often have a hard time remembering the irregular adverbs like “fast” and “hard” and that “good” as an adverb is “well”.
