This is a 6 page speaking based lesson, with one page of homework, and teacher’s instructions with answers.
The target language is the present perfect tense.
It is a speaking based lesson plan.
It focuses on:
- Understanding why we use the present perfect tense as well as how to use it.
(I have eaten lunch. / She has seen that movie.) - Asking present perfect questions using “Have you ever…?”
- Using the contraction of subject and have/has in present perfect sentences. (I’ve/We’ve)
- Learning and memorizing some common verb’s past participle forms to use with present perfect sentences and questions.
It includes:
- One page grammar breakdown (Presentation).
- Two Activities to practice speaking the target language (Semi-restricted speaking practice).
- Three Activities to produce the target language (Freer speaking practice).
- One page to be assigned for homework (Writing statements and a paragraph).
- One page of teacher’s instructions on how to execute the lesson in class and answers.
Tips:
- Spend some time helping students to understand the difference of using the past or the present perfect. Make sure to talk about using the present perfect when the action from the past has some influence on the present time.
(I have eaten lunch. Therefore right now I am not hungry.) - Remind students that when the action happened in the past is not important. When we use present perfect sentences we are usually not concerned when the action happened, just that it did in fact happen or not happen.
- Model the pronunciation of contractions with have and has (I’ve/He’s/They’ve).
