This is a 5 page speaking based lesson, with one page of homework, and teacher’s instructions with answers.

The target language is Imperatives and Infinitives of Purpose.
It is a speaking based lesson plan.

It focuses on:

  • Using Imperatives and Infinitives of Purpose to give advice, offer things, give instructions to people or wish people well.
(Wear sun cream to protect your skin. / Don’t arrive late to avoid getting in trouble.)
  • Learning vocabulary to describe short one day trips or outings.
  • Explaining why to use different kinds of apps or computer software.

It includes:

  • One page grammar breakdown (Presentation).
  • Two Activities to practice speaking the target language (Semi-restricted speaking practice).
  • Two Activities to produce the target language (Freer speaking practice).
  • One page to be assigned for homework (Fill-ins and a paragraph).
  • Two pages of teacher’s instructions on how to execute the lesson in class and answers.

Tips:

  • Start with teaching only what an Imperative is without using the infinitive of purpose.
    (Get well soon./Bring some money./Take off your shoes./Help me/Have a cookie.)
  • Once Imperatives are understood add an infinitive of purpose to explain why.
(Bring some money to buy a movie ticket. / Take off your shoes to keep the house clean.)
  • Encourage students to think of many different kinds of outings they go on.
(One day trips – Water park, Zoo, Beach, Hiking, etc.)
  • Talk about Phone Apps and computer software with the target language to keep it interesting and relevant to the students.
